Earth’s first attempt at reaching out to make alien contact turns out to be successful. There is one drawback however; the life they find is aggressively hostile and totally indiscriminate. Marooned beyond any hope of rescue one man discovers the terror that walks the planet and decides to tame it. Matching wits with city-sized computers turns out to be more than a mere earthling could have imagined. Matching wits with an earthling turns out to be far more costly than any computer could have imagined.

Death and destruction rain on both parades as the world becomes littered with dead machines and people. Both sides learn from each other and neither seems able to claim advantage. Mechanical war rages on land, in the air, and in the sea but still the earthling lives and eludes his pursuers.

Earth tries to right their errors by sending more men and this time armed to the teeth. Is it possible to beat megalithic machines whose only purpose is war? Can mere men successfully combat metal warriors? Do computers get headaches? David Owens has those answers and uses everything in life to his advantage.
